Thomala Seva

There are several customs and traditions that are followed at Tirupati for the lord Venkateshwara. A lot of Sevas are done in order to serve the lord at variable timings. Flowers and garlands are said to have spiritual powers. Therefore, to serve the lord, Tomala seva is performed in Tirupati. This is a daily seva which is performed at variable timings of the day.

Under the Tomala seva, the presiding deity of Lord Srinivasa, festival deities and other deities are beautifully decorated with fresh tulasi and floral garlands. This is done to make the lord happy.  However, the main deity of lord Venkateshwara is decorated with the flowers that are brought by the Ekangi or flowe specially brought from Flower room by Jeeyangar.

Thomala seva timings can be viewed by clicking on Darshan timings.

Basically Thomala is taken from a Tamil word i.e. Thoditta Malai which connotes garlands which are worn. Thomala seva is always conducted after the performance of the Vishwarupa Darshanam. Anyone can attend this seva by paying some money as fees also known as Arjitam. However, this seva is performed in Ekantam or solitude without the presence of any devotee on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thomala seva booking can also be done through internet directly. The advance booking can be done in an advance of maximum 60 days and minimum 3 days. For 30 minutes the seva continues after which the seva is ended and the devotees are told to leave.

While the performance if the ttd Thomala seva, 28 stanzas of Sri [[Aandaal]]’s [[Tiruppavai]] are recited to the lord. Devotees cannot perform this seva in the month of May-July and in mid of December and through mid of January.

The main priest of the Tirupati temple performs this seva, while the devotees are allowed to sit in the corridor leading to the Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple.

    Hi Vidhya,

    1. You can extend this but have to book it.

    2. Angapradakshinam is when pilgrims lie prostrate, and then roll around the temple, chanting the Lord’s name. It is performed in the Vimana Pradakshinam, one of the pathways around the temple.

Pilgrims who wish to undertake the Angapradakshinam will have to bathe in the Swami Pushkarini, and reach the Main Temple Complex by 0200 hrs (through a special queue that starts from the PPC Sheds).

Angapradakshinam is generally restricted to the weekends (Saturdays and Sundays). It is also restricted when there is heavy influx of pilgrims.

    Hope it helps.

    Thanks
    Balaji

  17. T.Thirumurthi says:

    Dear Sandeep,

As per ttdseva online, the quota for Feb, March, April and May – 2011 are full and hence you could not book for thomala seva. But you can get the ticket daily at the counter in Tirumala. There are maximum 200 tickets sold on daily basis. You can try for that.
