Teppotsavam, also known as ‘Boat Festival’ or ‘Float Festival’ in phagun maas (Holi)
Teppotsavam, also known as ‘Boat Festival’ or ‘Float Festival’, is performed in temples where the festival images of deities are taken in demonstration in a float (Teppam), in the temple tank, together with chanting of hymns and the playing of music. It is celebrated for consecutive five days. Every year during Phalguna full moon day, this festival is celebrated on a large scale in the Swami Pushkarini for five days. On the first day, Lord Rama with Sita and Lakshmana is presented worship. On the second day, Sri Krishna and Rukmini are offered traditional puja. During the remaining three days beginning with Tryodasi and ending with Pournami, Sri Malayappa Swami together with Sridevi and Bhudevi are worshipped. The utsav idols are extraordinarily tinted on these days and are taken on a beautiful float especially vertical in the Pushkarini. Arjitha seva ticket holders can have darsan of the Lord only after the festival.
Starting from Falguna Tryodasi, Lord Malayappa Swamy with Goddess Sridevi and Bhudevi are continuously worshipped till the concluding third day i.e. the day of Phalgun Purnima. The statue of the above deity are festooned with magnificent jewellery and garlands in a delightfully decorated boat and taken out for a parade in Swami Pushkarini Teertha. This float festival creates a centre of attention millions of devotees.
Hundreds of devotees have been spectators the float festival in river Krishna this evening with the decorated ‘Hamsavahanam’– a boat in the shape of a swan taking the deities of Goddess Durga and Lord Mallikarjunaswamy for ‘Nadi Viharam’(river release).
In the middle of reciting of Vedic hymns by priests, the deities were carried to the river in a palanquin from Indrakeeladri hill to the Durga ghat with the sound of ‘Jai Bhavani’ by devotees all across the air. The idols were in a while majestically placed on the swan-shaped boat after the Vedic pundits executed the associated pujas. The ‘Utsav Murtis’ were taken for a ride in the river thrice between the Durga ghat and the Bhavani islands with VIPs, Devasthanam officials and MLAs accompanying the ‘Hamsavahanam’ throughout the ‘Teppotsavam’.
A sea of kindness horde the shores, Prakaram Barrage and the hill side looking for the blessings of the placating Goddess and sanitization of their soul, mind and body.
The dazzling fireworks display at the Bhavani Islands offered an eye feast to the devotees.
After the ”Teppotsavam’, police will take the processional deity to the Jammidoddi where ‘Sami’ worship would be performed by one town sub-inspector according to temple tradition. After th theat ‘Utsava Vigrahams’ of the Goddess will be taken round at all the imperative centres in one Thousands of Bhavani devotees since early morning ended their 41-day ‘Deeksha’ by receiving a Darshan and offering ‘Irumudi’ to the leading deity.After getting a holy dip in the river Krishna at Durga Ghat, lakhs of devotees had a Darshan of Goddess Kanakadurga, who was highlighted as ‘Raja Rajeswari.
On behalf of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), its Board Member presented ‘Pattu Vastrams’ (Silk clothes) to the Goddess Kanakadurga as she deemed to be the sister of Lord Venkateswara.
